Organic Rankine Cycle

Research object

Recently, Nuclear energy and fossil fuels has caused a lot of problems. However, energy consumption daily is increasing, several methods for solving this problem have been studied

KIST has been studying ways to improve the energy efficiency of the system. One of them, ORC(Organic Rankine Cycle) is a method to generate energy from waste heat. The working principle of the organic Rankine cycle is the same as that of the Rankine cycle: the working fluid is pumped to a boiler where it is evaporated, passed through an expansion device (turbine or other expander), and then through a condenser heat exchanger where it is finally re-condensed.(1) By applying the air foil bearing with less energy loss, It is possible to further increase the energy efficiency of the system.

The purpose of ORC, by producing energy from the waste heat is to improve the energy efficiency of the system, So, we developed as followings;

-. Construction of small ORC system
-. Air foil bearing development to be used for ORC
